Instructions for Replacing a Flat Tire

We know that you want a flat tire about as much as you want a spare hole in your head. Here's what to do when you encounter a flat.

Always change tires on pavement that is a safe distance from traffic. If a flat occurs during a drive, do not stop in a moving-traffic lane. Next, turn off your car, apply the parking brake and chock a tire opposite of the flat. Grab your spare tire, tools and jack. Before you raise your vehicle, loosen the wheel's lug nuts with your lug wrench. With the car raised, remove the nuts, remove the flat and install the spare. Initially tighten the nuts by hand, then lower the car. Finally, use the wrench to fully tighten the nuts.
